Oklahoma!, the first musical written by composer Richard Rodgers and librettist Oscar Hammerstein II will come alive on the stage of R. E. Lee Auditorium on March 2, 3 and 4. We will move the show to the Lamar Performing Arts Center for two shows on March 9 and 10. The director of Oklahoma! will be Anita Fillingim.
The musical is set in the Oklahoma Territory outside the town of Claremore in 1906. It tells the story of cowboy Curly McLain and his romance with farm girl Laurey Williams. A secondary romance concerns cowboy Will Parker and his flirtatious fiancee, Ado Annie, a friend of Laurey’s. The plot also involves the rivalry between the local farmers and cowboys over fences and water rights.
